Terms of sale and use

Draft updated 2 November 2026. Fill in the bracketed details and have a lawyer or accountant review this page before the site goes live.

1. What these terms cover

These terms apply to this website, the free sample chapter, the Burnish guide, and the code examples that come with it. By signing up or buying, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

2. Ordering and payment

The guide is sold through Lemon Squeezy. At checkout, Lemon Squeezy acts as the seller of record. It takes payment, collects and pays any sales tax or VAT, and sends your receipt, and its own terms apply to that part of the purchase. The price you pay is the price shown at checkout, in the currency shown there.

3. What you get

When your payment is confirmed you can download the guide as a PDF and an EPUB, and you get access to the code examples repository. Corrections and revisions to the edition you bought are free. A later edition may be sold separately.

4. Your license

You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to read and use the guide for your own learning. You may print it for your own use. You may not share it, resell it, lend it, upload it to a public place, or give copies to other people. If you want to share it with a class or a team, write to us and we will arrange it.

The code examples are separate. They come with their own open license in the repository, and that license says how you may reuse them.

5. Refunds

You can ask for your money back within 14 days of buying, for any reason. The refund page explains how. This promise is in addition to any rights you already have under consumer law.

6. Losing access

If you lose your download, see how to get it again.

7. No promise of results

The guide teaches a method for learning to code. How far you get depends on you. We do not promise any job, income, grade, certificate, or finished project. The guide is educational and is not professional advice.

8. Code you run

The examples are tested before each release, but you run them on your own computer at your own risk. Back up your work, and read code before you run it, including ours.

9. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that the law does not allow us to limit, or any legal rights you have as a consumer. Beyond that, and as far as the law allows, our liability to you for anything connected with the guide is limited to the price you paid for it.

10. Intellectual property

The text, design, and structure of the guide and this site belong to the provider named in the legal notice, except for the code examples and any third-party material that carries its own license. The Burnish name and wordmark are not licensed to you.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version that applied when you bought the guide governs that purchase. Changes to the terms apply to later purchases and to use of the site after the change.

12. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by Hungarian law. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts of that country. Please write to us first, because most problems are quicker to fix that way. Consumers in Hungary can also contact the conciliation board at the chamber of commerce for their county.
